Polymeric stabilization of millimeter sized salt particles for a breakthrough heat battery

Cellcius heath battery fits industry

Application engineer

About Cellcius

Cellcius is an Eindhoven based startup founded in 2020 by TNO and TU/e and located at the TU/e campus. We are developing an innovative salt based heat battery that will play a crucial role in the energy transition. Our heat battery enables storage of waste heat (generated in data centers and industry) and use it again at a different time and location to heat houses and commercial buildings. We are currently in the system integration phase of our next generation heat battery, which has the size of a 20ft container. Later in 2023 this system will be shipped to a pilot customer. We have a job opening for an application engineer

Job description

We are looking for a talented, analytical and practical application engineer with hands on experience in mechatronics, mechanics, electronics and software. Our heat battery consists of salt modules, heat exchangers, pumps, valves & tubing, sensors, and control software (measurement system, closed loop control, diagnostics, GUI). You are responsible for maintenance of our prototypes for which you act as “machine owner”. Furthermore you take care of installation and commissioning of batteries at our customers across the Netherlands. You report to and are supported by our system architects. System level thinking is important, but also attention to details. Our battery is a complex system, and for full system performance every detail is important. If you thrive in fast-paced and dynamic working environments that require a professional with drive and exceptional analytical skills then you could be our ideal candidate. You have at least 4 years of experience in a similar role and have mechatronics/physics or HVAC background. Such experience could have been obtained as system integrator for complex machines.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of prototypes, installation, commissioning and support of our batteries at customers
  • Execute troubleshooting tasks and where needed hardware repair or tuning the battery or modify its software to solve performance issues
  • Maintain the “configuration as maintained” files of the system and the system logbook.
  • Act as “machine owner” for the battery, so keep the system in safe, clean and known technical state at every moment in time

Requirements:

  • TU or HBO mechatronics (or electronics, physics, mechanics)
  • A minimum of 4 years proven practical experience in a similar role
  • Able to think and act at system level, and have attention for details as well
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English
  • Able to work under time pressure and independently
  • Able to structure own work and reporting about it
  • Practical experience with design and commissioning of HVAC systems is a strong preference
  • Preferably experience with Beckhoff software package or at least C++ coding
  • Willingness to travel and providing remote support after office hours

What do we offer

  • Dynamic and inspiring startup environment with a lot of freedom to implement your job requirements
  • Multiple technology challenges and direct access to novel TNO and TU/e technology
  • Being part of Cellcius contribution to the energy transition
  • Monthly salary and possibilities to join our employee stock option plan

Note: candidates without integration experience or hands-on software configuration/tuning experience will be rejected

How to apply: applications can be sent to eddy.allefs@cellcius.com with a resume and motivation letter
