Polymeric stabilization of millimeter sized salt particles for a breakthrough heat battery

Cellcius heath battery fits industry

Mechatronics designer 40 h/week

About Cellcius

Cellcius is an Eindhoven based startup founded in 2020 by TNO and TU/e and located at the TU/e campus. We are developing an innovative salt based heat battery that will play its role in the energy transition. Our heat battery enables storage of renewable energy over long period of time and use it during discharging to heat houses and commercial buildings. We are currently in the system integration phase of our Minimum Viable Product, which has the size of a 20ft container. In 2024 we will develop the pilot version of this system, and install it at pilot customers from 2025 onwards. We have a job opening for an experienced mechatronics designer.

Job description

We are looking for a talented, highly analytical and practical mechatronics designer with hands-on design and integration experience in mechatronics. Our heat battery consists of salt modules, heat exchangers, pumps, valves & tubing, sensors, and control software (measurement system, closed loop control, diagnostics, GUI). Within the field of mechatronics, the focus is on sensing, control, electronics and software and less on precision mechanics, actuation and system dynamics. As a mechatronics designer you will work under supervision of our system architects, and you will also team up with our R&D and manufacturing partners. We are looking for a candidate who has at least 4 to 6 years of experience in a similar role and has the potential to grow into the role of system architect.

For this assignment both system level thinking and attention to details are important. Our battery is a complex system, and for full system performance every detail counts. If you thrive in a fast-paced working environment that requires a professional with drive and exceptional analytical skills, then you could be our ideal candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute mechatronics design and integration tasks in R&D projects and document and discuss progress and deliverables with your stakeholders. Our system architects take care of high level system design, your task is to propose the implementation options, agree on the optimal solution, and fully implement and test the chosen high-level design to and including delivery to pilot customer
  • Act as sensing, control and signal processing expert within Cellcius
  • Carry out software design for lab test setups and implement small modifications of software created by our R&D partners
  • Cooperate and provide support to R&D and manufacturing partners as well as pilot customers.
  • Carry out modifications on the systems assigned to you in order to maintain and enhance the system performance
  • Maintain the “configuration as maintained” files of the system and the system logbook.
  • Act as “owner” for the systems assigned to you, so you keep the system in a safe, clean and known technical state at every moment in time
  • Coaching BSc and MSc internship and graduation students

Requirements:

  • TU or HBO mechatronics
  • 4-6 years proven design and integration experience in a similar role
  • Working experience in an industrial company is a must
  • Able to think and act at system level including negotiation with system architects and suppliers, and have attention for details as well
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and preferably English.
  • Able to work under time pressure and independently
  • Self-starter and fast learner, we want to hire candidates who have done this work before
  • Practical experience with design and commissioning HVAC systems is a strong preference
  • You have a car driver license B and own transportation means. You will frequently travel to R&D and supply chain partners and pilot customers in Europe

What do we offer

At Cellcius you will work in a startup team which is a mix of seasoned entrepreneurs from which you can learn a lot, system architects and a young R&D team of recent graduates and students who are in need of your guidance.

We have multiple technological challenges and you will have direct access to novel TNO and TU/e technology. Startup life brings challenges and excitement and requires flexibility. In return you can develop yourself fast, you will get a market conform salary and will have access to our stock options & shares plan
